Dr. Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru, was the Senator representing Osun Central Senatorial District in the 9th National Assembly under the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress; and also doubled as the Chairman, Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs.
He was also a member of the following Senate Committees:
• Committee on Airforce;
• Committee on Downstream Petroleum Sector;
• Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters;
• Committe on Petroleum Resources (Upstream).
He was a commissioner during the administration of Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, he served in the first term as Honorable Commissioner of Regional Integration and Special Duties and in the second term as Honorable Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice.
Dr Basiru was born on the 1st of July, 1972 into the family of late Basiru Akanmu Adebayo, Odofin Compound and his mother is from Alawe Compound both in Osogbo, State of Osun. .
Ajibola began his early education at Salvation Army Primary School, Oke-Fia, Osogbo and later attended Laro Grammar School, Oke-fia, Osogbo where he obtained his Secondary School Certificate. While at Laro, he served as Assistant Senior Prefect and was the PRO of Dramatic and Arts Society of the School
Asides western education, he also studied Arabic and Islamic Studies both at Ma’had Zumaratul Solheena Afonta Osogbo and Osun Islamic Theological College, Idi Baba Oke Baale Osogbo where he was a diploma student before proceeding to the University of Ilorin.
He attended University of Ilorin between 1989-1992 where he was a student in the Department of Arabic and Islamic Studies before proceeding to the University of Lagos for a Law degree.
Ajibola is married to Habibat, also a legal practitioner (currently a Magistrate with the State of Osun Judiciary), and they are blessed with Omobola, Ajibola Jnr and Mobolaji.
